Doesn't he just look like a little angel?
Okay, maybe not. But this kid, 19-year old Randal Ellis, just got sentenced to three years for hacking into 911 systems in California and calling a SWAT team to a residence. Apparently Ellis, a Snohomish resident, told Orange County officials there was a dead body inside and an armed killer waiting...when it was really just a family having dinner.
He told Orange County officials there was a dead man, a woman with a gunshot wound to the face and a cocaine overdose at the family's home. The father, mother and their two babies were inside at the time.
A SWAT team arrived with their heavy weapons drawn and ready to look for a killer. Deputies thought he was armed with a handgun.
The father at the house heard the commotion, grabbed a knife and went outside, prosecutors said. He thought a prowler was on his property, but he encountered the SWAT team.
I don't need to rail on the stupidity of this kind of thing (that much should be apparent). Manipulating emergency systems and putting people at risk of harm for no reason is never excusable. Just check out this story from the OC Register and hear what this kid did to the poor guy who walked out of his back door and found himself face to face with an army of assault rifles.
“I thought someone was in my back yard, and they were going to get my family,” the victim said. “It was terrifying for months afterward.”
I think the question here is not why did he do it, but why do the smartest of people do the dumbest of things? I mean, this kid can figure out how to hack into a 911 system and call out SWAT teams to fake crime scenes. You're telling me he isn't smart enough to go to college?
Well, with a mug shot like that, I'm sure he'll be a hit with other prisoners. Good luck Randal, karma's a...well, you know.
